Umbria ( Torgiano )

Torgiano

On Sundays (festivi), public transports in Perugia are not very frequent as compared to weekdays (Feriali). I wanted to go to Torgiano, about 30 minutes south of Perugia but there were no buses available on Sunday.

My classmate from Czech Republic and I decided to go to Torgiano one weekday after our lessons. From Piazza Italia, we took a bus to Torgiano and the bus ride is only Euro 0.80.

Torgiano is an ancient little town situated not far from Perugia. It lies on the hills overlooking the valley where the River Chiascio joins the River Tevere.

Torgiano has a wine museum (Museo del Vino ) and also a olive museum ( Museo dell’Olio ) showcasing the production of olive oil. A good wine label to select from Torgiano would be the famous Lungarotti. The University for Foreigners does organize short excursions to Mueseo del Vino for students under the ERASMUS programme.

We saw the Tower (Torre di Guardia o Baglioni) and decided to walk around it. Around us, we saw lush green fields growing olives. After biting into a raw green olive, the bitter taste is overwhelming that I bought a gelato to remove the bitter taste.
