2010 04 11 - Magma - Wine tasting with Markus Haas, Winery Johanninger (Rheinhessen)
Meet the Wine maker Markus Haas from the Winery Johanninger (Rheinhessen) at MAGMA and taste some of his excellent wines. It is complimentary and he will explain the wines and inform you about the winery.
“Johanninger” is a merger of 3 wine makers, which decided to join in 1995. Their vineyards are located in 3 wine regions (Rheinhessen, Nahe, Rheingau) and include such famous names like “Biebelsheimer Kirchenberg”, “Kreuznacher Himmelsgarten” , “Assmannshaeuser Hoellenberg” and “Lorcher Bodenthal-Steinberg” with different soils like loess (Rheinhessen), limestone (Nahe) and slate (Rheingau). Total area of vineries is 21 hectares. Beside of excellent wines Johanninger produces also delicious sparkling wines (Methode traditionelle) and wine brandies
Some of the wines which Markus Haas will present are already available at Magma, e.g.:
- “Hans Haas” – a white wine master cuvee of Riesling (20 %) and Huxelrebe (80 %)
Attractive wine with intense flavors due to a slow fermentation
- “ Berg” – Riesling dry “sur lie”
Full bodied Riesling with typical flavors like peaches and minerals. Dry but not acid on the palate
- Green Silvaner dry
Greenish appearance with subtle vegetal flavors. Crispy but low acidity.
- “Kessler” – a cuvee of Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc
Distinct wine with pineapple taste and a slight lemon character; harmonious acidity with a good structure
- Sauvignon Blanc
Distinctive green flavors, not overloaded by aroma, but recognizable Sauvignon. Crispy on the palate
- “Im Himmelgarten (In Heavens Garden)” – Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris)
Fresh, clear, distinct, ripe fruit and good harmony
- “Adam Weidmann 1879” – a red wine master cuvee of the varieties Dornfelder and St. Laurent
Smooth, spicy hints of raspberries and occasional red pepper
- “Phylitt” – Spaetburgunder (Pinot Noir)
Classic Assmannshausen Pinot Noir with the herbaceous smokey character deriving from the “Phylitt” slate soil.
Smoky and spicy flavors, elegant and a bit fragil.
All wines from Johanninger are only made from selected grapes of the own vineyards. No wine from other wine makers will be bought in addition.
