Umbria ( Spello )
Spello
One afternoon, after our lessons, my classmate Ana and I decided to spend our time exploring a neighbouring city near to Perugia. We decided to explore Spello as she was recommended by her teacher in Hong Kong to visit this unspoilt and charming small town. From the train station, we could see this charming town perched on a hilltop (331m above sea-level).
We entered the impressive main gate entrance (Porta Consolare) and started to walk along the steep steps.
The main entrance is built with limestones gathered from Mount Subasio and laid without mortar. There are also numberous walls as we explored round Spello. This Roman town ( previously called Hispellum) has numerous walls around her which is a legacy of the Roman fortification.
Some houses were all decorated with nice potted plants and shrubs on their doorway. They have added some warmth and colours to this small community.
However, when we arrived, it was lunch time and the whole town seemed so deserted in the afternoon. It was so peaceful and we just sank into the tranquility of the town.
