A father and son, Toto' and Ninetto, in their surreal innocence, walk without a precise destination, speaking about a million things and never being surprised about anything at all. They meet a talking crow that claims to be son of doubt and conscience. He begins to narrate the story of brother Ciccillo and brother Ninetto, who both preached to the birds and tried to evangelize hawks. Hawks following their instincts devour sparrows. Toto' and Ninetto continue their aimless journey, alternating their behaviour to reflect that of a hawk or a sparrow.
Until one day, Pasolini declared that Uccellacci e uccellini was his favourite film, as it was the only one that did not disappoint his expectations.
