2008 10 22 - 8th week of the Italian Language and Culture in the world
Celebrated annually, the event intends to promote the awareness of the Italian language and culture worldwide. The underlying theme of this year's edition is The Square (La Piazza) as a place of social importance and a symbol of status for the city itself.The festival showcases a series of events in various locations in Singapore. The not-to-be-missed photographic exhibition, Venice. Fragments of Memories displays one hundred black and white photographs by renowned post-war Italian artists. The exhibition PIEDMONT'S SQUARES. Architecture, Festivals, Lifestyle with a collage of images of various aspects of Piedmont's region squares and their inhabitants offers a vivid cross-section of Italian society.A series of films - Stealing Beauty, Hawks and Sparrows, La Strada, Flying Lessons and Tickets - by famous Italian directors keep us travelling through a variety of places. They meet a talking crow that claims to be son of doubt and conscience. He begins to narrate the story of brother Ciccillo and brother Ninetto, who both preached to the birds and tried to evangelize hawks. Hawks following their instincts devour sparrows. Toto' and Ninetto continue their aimless journey, alternating their behaviour to reflect that of a hawk or a sparrow.Until one day, Pasolini declared that Uccellacci e uccellini was his favourite film, as it was the only one that did not disappoint his expectations.

After failing their high school finals, they try to deflect the wrath of their families by claiming that Curry (an adopted Indian boy) is suffering from an identity crisis and needs to go to India (in the company of his inseparable friend) to discover his roots. The scheme works. The two leave for India, but the trip turns out to be completely different from what they had imagined. "Chicken" falls in love with a considerably older lady doctor who works for "Doctors without Borders" while "Curry" discovers India, at first rejecting it and then becoming enthralled.

She feels like going with him, but he puts confusion in her mind by pointing out that perhaps Zampano is in love with her.This Fellini's film is one of the most important films of post-war Italian cinema. It won eight awards and among these the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film (1956) and the Silver Lion at Venice Film Festival (1954).
